CAE announces partnership with Allegiant and adds 2 new routes to Florida

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) announced a new partnership Tuesday morning.

Airport officials said Allegiant Air will fly from CAE starting in February with two new routes: one to Daytona Beach/Sanford, Florida via Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and another to Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Florida via Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport ( FLL).

The CAE to SFB route will open on May 15, 2025, while the CAE to FLL route will open on May 22, 2025.

“The entire team at CAE is extremely pleased that Allegiant will begin flights at Columbia Metropolitan Airport to two beautiful destinations in Florida,” said Kim Crafton, vice president of Marketing and Air Service Development. “Securing a renowned low-cost airline with brand recognition like Allegiant is a significant win not only for the airport, but for the entire Columbia region. We look forward to the service commencing in May 2025 and know this partnership will be successful and long-lasting.”

The new airline is the latest in a series of planned upgrades at CAE as the airport continues to encourage travelers to consider the local alternative to competitors like Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

Community surveys show a need for more destinations and low-cost airlines. CAE’s plans for the future are based on information. Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, Columbia Metropolitan Airport offered a seasonal route to Miami International Airport via American Airlines.

The new partnership is also part of Allegiant’s network expansion, which has grown to 51 cities across the United States. In addition to CAE, the budget carrier has added Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF) and Colorado Springs Airport (COS) as travel options.

Allegiant said they are celebrating the expansion with cheap one-way fares for the new routes, as low as $39.

CAE also outlined several other improvements they have planned, including a wider security checkpoint and a new business lounge.
