Woman thrashed, teenage daughter stripped over ‘water waste’ claims in Mumbai

A woman and her 18-year-old daughter were brutally attacked by their neighbor during a water dispute. During this attack, the daughter was stripped naked and beaten.

The incident took place in Panvel area of ​​Navi Mumbai on Thursday. After the attack, police filed a case against eight members of a family in connection with the attack. However, no one has been arrested so far. According to the FIR, the suspect allegedly beat up the woman and her daughter and undressed the teenager in public.

According to PTI, the family suspected that the mother and daughter had complained about water wastage in their locality in Nhava Sheva area. The suspect also allegedly used casteist insults against the victims during the attack.

According to the report, a case was registered under section 74 (assault or use of criminal force against women with intent to outrage her modesty), 76 (assault or use of criminal force against women with intent to undress) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

In a separate incident, a mother and her daughter were attacked by their neighbors on suspicion of prostitution. The attack took place in Vaddarawadi locality of Belagavi district, Karnataka, within the jurisdiction of Malamaruti police station.

According to the victim, who has lived in the area for four years, neighbors barged into her home, dragged her and the woman outside and physically assaulted them. The attackers claimed that strangers regularly visited her home. During the attack, the woman’s clothes were torn in public and the act was recorded on mobile phones, according to a report on IANS.

She claimed that despite the severity of the attack, local police initially refused to register the complaint for two days. The woman said she then approached the Belagavi city police commissioner and filed a petition detailing her fear for her life.

A case was filed under Sections 115(2), 3(5), 331, 352 and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act. The investigation is now ongoing and authorities are preparing to question the suspect.
