Trump calls Liz Cheney ‘deranged’ and muses about guns ‘shooting at her’

GLENDALE, Ariz. — President Trump launched another attack on Rep. Liz Cheney late Thursday, calling the Republican former congresswoman from Wyoming a “war hawk” and suggesting she might not be as willing to send troops to fight if there were weapons were aimed at her.

At an event in Glendale, Arizona, with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, the Republican presidential candidate was asked if it was strange to see Ms. Cheney campaigning against him.

Ms. Cheney has vocally opposed Trump since the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and has become a surrogate for his Democratic opponent, Vice President Harris.

Calling Cheney “a crazy person,” Trump added, “But the reason she couldn’t stand me is because she always wanted to make war with people.” If it were up to her, we would be in fifty different countries.”

After calling Ms. Cheney “a very stupid individual,” he said: “She is a radical war hawk. Let’s put her there with the gun while nine barrels shoot at her. Okay, let’s see what she thinks about it. You know, when the guns are pointed at her face.”

Trump added: “You know they’re all war hawks when they sit in Washington in a nice building and say, oh boy, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the enemy’s mouth.”

After Ms. Harris’ campaign and other Trump critics on social media addressed the quote, Trump’s campaign responded that he was “talking about how Liz Cheney wants to send America’s sons and daughters to fight in wars despite that she herself has never been in a war.”
