Throwback: When Justin Bieber Revealed First Year of Marriage to Hailey Was ‘Tough’; Says there was ‘lack of trust’

Hailey Bieber recently shared a cozy selfie of herself on a fall walk with her husband, Justin Bieber, and their newborn son, Jake Blues Bieber. Rhode’s founder’s photo in November somehow reminded us of how being patient in life can be extremely rewarding in some cases, especially those involving love and relationships.

We’re throwing it back to 2019, when Hailey and Justin Bieber were a newlywed couple and had to deal with the myriad challenges that their shared history continually brought to their union.

Shortly after tying the knot, Hailey said in a February 2019 interview with Vogue that she and her pop star husband met with a marriage counselor. The runway model told the outlet, “The thing is, marriage is really hard. That’s the sentence you should start with. It’s going really fast.”

In an April 2019 interview, Justin Bieber echoed a somewhat similar sentiment, though he revealed more personal details in his take on marriage. In an interview with GQ, the Baby singer revealed that his first year of marriage to Hailey was “really tough” as the duo had to revisit and heal from their respective traumas before taking a new step in their relationship.

According to Bieber, admitting your trauma in front of the person you love is the hardest thing you can do, especially if there is a “lack of trust” and fear of overwhelming him or her.

Well, five years later, the couple is still happily married and only recently became parents to a baby boy, proving that all the guidance and effort they put into their relationship was worth it in the end.

Hailey and Justin Bieber’s relationship dates back to 2009, when they had a brief meet-and-greet behind the scenes of a TV show, thanks to her father, Stephen Baldwin’s, friendship with Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette. The pair sparked dating rumors in 2014 after a joint church performance at Hillsong Church, although they were not yet romantically involved, according to Hailey.

After denying dating rumors several times in 2014, Jailey rang in the new year together and began their love story. In 2015, the couple went on vacation to Mexico. However, in 2016, they went through a very public breakup.

In June 2018, Justin and Hailey got back together, and this time they wasted no time in making things permanent. They got engaged in July 2018 and were husband and wife by September 2018.

A year later, the couple had a second wedding in South Carolina. They became parents to Jake Blues Bieber in August 2024.
