Potential WR transfer targets for MSU

Potential WR transfer targets for MSU

The Michigan State Spartans air offense has a very bright future.

Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles is the future of the Green and Whites, with elite arm talent and playmaking skills that many signal callers lack.

Freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh appears to be his biggest weapon for the coming seasons. Marsh has shown game-changing speed, elite route-running skills and the tools of a bona fide NFL wide receiver.

Young wide receivers like Azaiah Johnson are also bringing excitement, under the tutelage of position coach Courtney Hawkins. The Spartans have shown they are willing to get aggressive in their search for talent in the transfer portal.

A quarterback like Chiles needs to be surrounded by weapons. Who are the best weapons in the transfer portal?

Johntay Cook II, Texas

Cook, the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 2 overall prospect, was an elite four-star prospect out of Texas high school football power DeSoto. Cook was evaluated by 247Sports, which projected him as a second- or third-round draft choice.

“Can produce early picks in the right role with long-term potential to develop into a true impact player. Projects as a big multi-year starter with a development ceiling in the first round of the NFL Draft.”

Malachi Coleman, Nebraska

Coleman has a tremendous physical presence at 6-foot-4 and has top court speed. He could be unstoppable in the Spartans’ vertical attack. Next to Swamp? Unstoppable. The No. 63 pick in the class of 2023 received high marks from 247Sports.

“Unique football player with a high ceiling, excellent athleticism and physical tools,” Gabe Brooks wrote. “It may take some time to develop physically and technically, but the potential is huge. Projects as a high recruit with the long-term advantage of being drafted, possibly in the top half.”

Javonnie Gibson, Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Gibson, unheralded out of high school, is the No. 3 wide receiver and No. 9 overall prospect available in the portal. He has a good frame and his easy speed and route-running ability make him a dangerous deep threat and perhaps the best playmaker at the FCS level.

Gibson is a realistic grappler with a very high ceiling. He could be a formidable No. 2 option.
