The Chicago Bulls may be preparing for a fire sale.

NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported The Stein Line that Bulls executives have been in contact with other teams about possible moves ahead of the February 6 NBA trade deadline and are open to moving most of their roster, including Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball and Nikola Vučević.

“It comes as no surprise that, according to league sources, Bulls executives have communicated to rival front offices that they are willing to discuss most of their roster in trade talks ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline,” wrote Fischer. “Most notably, sources say, is that Chicago has expressed a desire to move LaVine, Vučević and Ball, who are earning a combined salary of nearly $85 million this season.” Arturas is trying to draw attention to all his guys — he’s smart,” said a league figure with knowledge of the Bulls’ thinking. “The fact that they were willing to trade DeMar and (Alex) Caruso (this past offseason) is that they are (now) willing to move everyone.”

Chicago is currently 8-12 and in 10th place in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls have missed the postseason the past two seasons and have been out of the playoffs six times in the past seven years.

While this year’s team could turn around the season, the talent disparity between them and the top teams in the conference could make a fire sale more attractive. The Bulls have some interesting pieces, so regaining as much value as possible could be a good strategy.

LaVine is averaging 21.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 17 games so far in 2024-2025. He’s under contract through 2025-2026 with a player option for 2026-2027, and a team closer to contention could see him as a solid addition to the core.

Vučević is averaging 20.4 points with 9.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 20 games so far in 2/24/25. The 33-year-old is under contract through 2025-26 and is unlikely to replicate any Bulls success, so trading him when his value may be the right move.

Ball has had his career derailed by injuries, appearing in just four games in the 2024-25 season. He’s set to hit free agency next season and while his value may not be as high as before, Chicago could salvage something from him and allow him to revive his career elsewhere.

With core pieces like Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey, Coby White and Patrick Williams in the early stages of their careers, Chicago could be best suited to move on from the older core and embrace the youth.
