MIAMI GARDENS – Odell Beckham, Jr. looked really explosive and fast on Wednesday in the portion of the Miami Dolphins practice open to the media.

“Yeah, I mean, I’m still running 20 miles an hour, still faster than the person chasing me,” Beckham said after practice. “It just wasn’t the most opportunity, you know. Like I said, coming here, you know, we got two guys that got paid $30 million, you know, and that’s how can I help and I help and find my way in. And I think as a team we’re just establishing who we are, what our identity is going to be.”

In three games since returning from injury, OBJ has recorded 33 snaps, 3 goals and 0 catches.

At 31 years old, Beckham knows he isn’t one of Miami’s top targets in 2024.

But he really just wants to contribute.

“There are so many guys we can get the ball to,” Beckham said. “There’s three running backs, three receivers, tight end. There’s only one football, you know, so I’m just trying to establish who we are as a team. But the time is now.”

Odell Beckham, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are all looking for Miami Dolphins targets

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is also trying to get stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle more targets and catches.

If Miami can have more drives and offensive plays, that will help.

McDaniel also thought Beckham, playing with Tua Tagovailoa for the first time, looked at his best as a Dolphin.

“It was a step in the right direction that isn’t reflected in a box score,” McDaniel said. “Sometimes the opposing defensive coordinator can just randomly call a certain coverage that is (OBJ’s) No. 1 (target) and is running a good route and there is a floating defender near him that forces Tua to advance. I thought That (Odell) attacked his responsibilities the best he has since he’s been here and I thought it was a step in the right direction.”

On Wednesday, Tagovailoa said working with Beckham while both were on injured reserve should pay dividends.

On the timing, Tua said: “I think we’re getting where we need to be.”

Beckham should be a threat for the Dolphins on third downs.

Beckham can be a threat for the Dolphins in the red zone.

For Beckham, this season isn’t necessarily about racking up stats, it’s about finding a way to help.

“It’s about the sense of urgency,” Beckham said of Miami’s 2-5 record. “It’s not like everything is over. It’s just about making those corrections and changing them because at the end of the day there will be ten matches played. What your record will be ultimately depends on you. But let those matches be played. “

Odell Beckham Jr. feels ready to help dolphins

Beckham suggested that he has had so many injuries in recent years that he would like to take advantage of how he feels now – and that is good.

“Today was supposed to be a light day and I was pushing,” Beckham said. “You know what I mean? I was looking for something to get better at there. I feel good. I don’t ever want to take that for granted again, even though it’s hard. People always talk about receivers and they” It’s like, oh, the divas and all that, s… they say, and it’s like, ‘a receiver is the most selfless person on the field.’ “

Beckham elaborated on selflessness.

“First and foremost, you have to wait until it’s a passing play,” he said. “You have to wait for the o-line to block and protect. You have to wait for the quarterback to throw you the ball. There’s nothing you can really control. You can be open 10 times in a game and never get the ball. It could be thrown at you one time, and that could be your only chance.

“So honestly, as much as people talk about recipients, they really are some of the most selfless people in this field and that’s why it’s so critical, you know, it’s like we only get one hour a week, you know, that five All I get is the opportunity, or however many opportunities you get, see you next week. So yeah, it’s about finding how to best serve my teammates and this team.”
