Live score, updates from the CIF high school football championship

Here we go again.

The California High School Football State Championship in Division 1 has come down to national titans Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.

Mater Dei defeated St. John Bosco during the regular season, but these two teams have a history of splitting their season series.

Mater Dei enters the game ranked No. 1 national high school in the SI Top 25, while St. John Bosco is No. 10.

Follow below for live updates from the 2024 CIF Division 1 Southern Section championship game, which kicks off at 7pm PT on Friday, November 29 at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.

1ST QUARTER

We’re on our way to Long Beach! St. John Bosco gets the ball first and will start the opening drive at the 20 after a dribbling touchback.

Carson Clark makes a first-down grab of freshman QB Koa Malau’ulu on third and fourth and the Braves are off to a good start.

INTERCEPTION! So much for that good start. Malau’ulu throws the ball straight to Daryus Dixson, who almost takes it back for six. Mater Dei ball on the Bosco 7.

FIELD GOAL MATER DEI! Dominic Zante hits a 28-yard field goal after a win of sorts for Bosco by keeping Mater to three. Are 3-0 Royals with 8:02 left.

Almost another choice for Mater Dei (CJ Lavender) in third place, but this one is incomplete and Bosco kicks after a decent drive. Mater Dei ball on its own 15 with 4:08 left, leading 3-0.

QB Dash Beierly makes a brilliant spin move to avoid pressure and runs for a first down on third and 8. Mater Dei is closing in on Bosco territory with 57 seconds left.

END 1ST QUARTER: Mater Dei 3, St. John Bosco 0

2ND QUARTER

Mater Dei starts the quarter with a first-and-10 on the Bosco 30.

TOUCHDOWN MATER DEI! Jordon Davison charges in from four yards out to make it 11-0 Royals with 9:43 left after the two-point conversion.

St. John Bosco moves into Mater Dei territory on a first-down catch by Carson Clark with just over six minutes remaining.

One-handed grab by Daniel Odom plus a 15-yard penalty for roughing Koa Malau’ulu and Bosco is at the Mater Dei 13 with 5:44 left.

A passer penalty on Nasir Wyatt gives Bosco a first down after a third-and-15 pass goes incomplete. Bosco on first down at the Mater Dei 10 with 4:38 left, trailing 11-0.

TOUCHDOWN BOSCO! Koa Malau’ulu throws a dart under pressure to Madden Williams for a 9-yard touchdown and it’s 11-7 Mater Dei with 3:54 left.

TOUCHDOWN MATER DEI! Jordon Davison scores his second TD of the game, this time from three yards out. A 40-yard catch by Kayden Dixon-Wyatt helped set it up. Are 17-7 after a failed two-point conversion. 2:10 left.
