Just In: Amantle Samane’s Alleged Killer Hospitalized After ‘Assault’ In Custody (VIDEO)

Phethe Sara Simiao appeared before the Protea Magistrate’s Court but the case was adjourned as the suspect required medical attention.

It is believed that Phete Sara Simiao was attacked while awaiting his court appearance.

The Mozambican accused of raping and murdering six-year-old Amantle Samane was due to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 1.

In addition to rape and murder, Simiao is also accused of kidnapping and violating immigration law.

Postponed until December

The suspect appeared in court on Friday morning, but showed signs of physical discomfort.

The court heard his claims that he was attacked by prison guards, but said he could not identify his alleged attackers. SABC News.

He complained of injuries to his stomach, legs and body, and after a short adjournment the case was adjourned until December 3.

Simiao will be hospitalized before being taken into custody. It is believed he will still apply for bail when the date for his application is announced.

The murder of Amantle Samane

Police said six-year-old Amantle Samane was playing with friends on their Orlando street when she allegedly received a call from Simiao.

Her partially nude body was found on Monday, October 21, in an empty shack two blocks from her home.

“The suspect allegedly raped and murdered the girl in the hut. The matter was reported to the police who immediately began searching for the suspect,” Gauteng police spokesperson Lt Col Mavela Masondo confirmed.

Simiao was arrested on October 24 and made his first appearance before the Protea Magistrate’s Court the following day.

Public outrage

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said he was overwhelmed with anger when Simiao appeared in court for the first time.

Speaking to media outside the court, Mchunu called Samane’s murder a “major” and “devastating” tragedy.

“It was even hard to watch this guy in the courtroom because when you look at him you are overcome with emotion; you are overcome by a feeling of anger,” the minister said.
