Dryden man dies after fiery two-vehicle crash

A 63-year-old Dryden man died Wednesday evening from injuries sustained in a fiery two-vehicle crash near the intersection of West Dryden Road and Sheldon Road. The accident occurred around 6 p.m., prompting a response from the Freeville Fire Department, Dryden Ambulance and other emergency services.

Daniel Heath, 63, was found trapped in a burning vehicle. Bystanders acted quickly and used fire extinguishers to control the flames while others tried to free Heath from the wreckage. He was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other driver was also taken to hospital but is expected to recover.

According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Heath was driving south on Sheldon Road and failed to stop at a stop sign, leading to the collision. Several fire brigades arrived on the scene.
