Charges filed against a Kansas City man accused of rape in Zona Rosa parking lot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Sexual assault charges were filed against a Kansas City man in connection with an incident in the Zona Rosa parking lot nearly a year earlier.

Records from the Circuit Court of Platte County, Missouri, filed on Tuesday, November 26, show that Adrian L. Horton, 20, of Kansas City, has been charged with rape in connection with an assault in the Zona Rosa.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department revealed that on December 6, 2023, first responders were called to the East Patrol Division at 2460 Prospect Ave. with reports of a victim reporting an assault that occurred the day before.

During the victim’s statements to police, she reported that Horton, whom she knew beforehand, picked her up to go for a ride. The couple had set boundaries that no sexual contact would take place before they left for Zona Rosa.

When Horton parked his car near the Dillard’s parking garage, law enforcement officials said he attempted to make physical contact with the victim. When she denied him, Horton began choking her and sexually assaulting her.

Investigators noted that Horton drove the victim back to her home after the attack. She later sought medical treatment and a sexual assault assessment kit. Horton’s DNA was recovered by police through a search warrant and tested against the sexual assault kit. The results showed that Horton was most likely the perpetrator.

As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Horton on Tuesday, with bail set at just $30,000 cash. He is charged with rape in the second degree.

As of Saturday, November 30, Horton appears to no longer be behind bars. No further information has been released.
