3 take plea deals in the Monopoly Club attack

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Three of the six people charged in connection with an attack on the Monopoly Club on Oak Street have reached plea deals, according to court records.

Fidel Gandara, Anthony Martinez and Rene Sanchez pleaded no contest to assault and gang charges, records show.

Martinez and Sanchez were sentenced to prison and probation; the charges they pleaded to were felonies. Gandara, who has pleaded no contest to an assault charge, will be sentenced in January.

Jimmy Ramirez, Christian Romero and Jose Aguirre still face charges, according to court records. Their next hearing is on January 27.

The attack happened on Nov. 11, 2023, and involved members of the West Side Bakers street gang, police said in court documents.

“In this particular case,” an investigator wrote in the documents, “the West Side Bakers worked together to brutally attack civilians who did not appear to pose a threat and did not fight back.”

According to the documents, one man was on the ground when he was stomped and a bottle was hit on his head. Two other men were beaten.
